What to expect from Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is simply a wonderful feeling of deep relaxation. Hypnosis allows the conscious, thinking part of your mind, to calm and relax, thereby allowing your unconscious mind to increase its state of alertness and do all the work for you. Our unconscious mind is like a storehouse and holds all our experiences in its own library. The beauty of hypnosis, is that it gives access to that library, allowing you to change/amend any unhelpful thoughts, feelings and behaviours that are stored there. You can be assured that there is no way to make unwanted changes, your unconscious mind will only allow information you have agreed to, to be changed. You are always in control and can open your eyes at any time, I frequently interact with clients during hypnosis and you are fully capable of speaking whilst in this wonderful relaxed state.

For example, perhaps you get anxious in certain situations, or maybe you have an unhealthy habit you want to change. You’ve tried hard to control the anxiety or change the habit, but as much as you want to change, your willpower isn’t enough and that’s where Hypnotherapy can help. By talking directly to your unconscious mind, where that feeling or habit is coming from, we can ask it to think, feel and behave differently. It really is as simple as that. When you’re fully relaxed, your conscious mind is switched off and your unconscious mind remains fully alert, open to learning new things. This is the point at which new thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour can be developed and is also why Hypnotherapy is so successful.

What to expect from Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

EFT, commonly known as ‘tapping’ or psychological acupuncture, is a simple yet effective technique that can be used on a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief and anger, as well as to establish healthy habits around food or stopping smoking. Used effectively, it can also help us change the way we think, allowing us to remove ‘blocks’ that have held us back from living the life we want to live; financial blocks perhaps, that have led us to think we don’t deserve financial freedom etc.

Eastern medicine has long treated the whole person, mentally and physically at the same time and in the western world we are beginning to catch up with the idea that our emotional health is imperative to our physical health. As well as affecting our health, negative emotions can lead to limiting beliefs and behaviours and this may result in anxiety, depression or even addictions.

EFT uses the energy meridians from traditional acupuncture to treat both emotional and physical issues. Instead of inserting needles you simply tap on specific acupressure points with your fingertips and research shows that tapping on these points calms the nervous system. These acupressure, or energy points, have great impact on both our emotional and physical health.

EFT, in a therapeutic setting, simply involves tapping on these specific acupressure, or energy points, mainly on the face and upper body whilst, at the same time, repeating short phrases that I say to you. It is a tool which you can also use at home at any time you need to release negative feelings or perhaps overcome cravings for food, alcohol or cigarettes and I will show you how to use EFT yourself during our sessions.

EFT works on a wide variety of issues, has a great success rate and can produce fast and effective results.

What to expect from NLP

Do you want to change the way you act in a particular situation, perhaps you have unhelpful thought patterns or habits? In that case NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming could be for you.

NLP is a comfortable, safe and effective way of changing thought patterns and behaviours and can be explained as follows:

Neuro relates to the brain and the way we process information
Linguistics relates to the language we use
Programming relates to the patterns and behaviours we have learnt

We are all unique and take in information and experience the world around us through our five senses. This information gets translated into our thoughts and our thoughts then have an effect on our emotions and behaviours.

Stop for a moment and conjure up an image of ”feeling cold”. For one person ”feeling cold” may create an image of sitting by a roaring fire, feeling warm and cosy, for another person, feeling cold may mean being miserable and damp.

So by understanding the way in which we individually process information, it is possible to learn new coping methods and transform negative behaviours. Our thoughts have an effect on our emotions and on our behaviours and NLP gives us tools and techniques to re-frame and change unwanted behaviour.

If you would like to know more about how NLP can help you move from where you are now to where you would like to be, please contact me for a no obligation chat.

What to expect from Talking Therapy/Cognitive Change

Talking therapy allows you the opportunity to express your feelings, to process past events and talk through difficult situations in a calm, reflective and non judgemental space. It gives you the opportunity to ‘off load’ and I will work with you to help you find perspective and a comfortable way to address the issue moving forward. Unlike counselling, where generally, the counsellor will sit and listen without interaction, my approach is collaborative, a combination of therapy and coaching. We will talk, explore and work together to help you move forward.

Cognitive therapy can highlight and help you become aware of unhelpful patterns of thinking. Once we’re aware of thoughts which hinder us on a daily basis, we’re in a great position to change them and cognitive therapy allows you to find alternative, more helpful and healthy ways of thinking. Because our thoughts have such a major impact on our feelings and on our behaviours, this can bring about positive change on many levels.

There is an element of talking and cognitive therapy in the way I work with all my clients. However, these techniques are all about making ‘conscious’ change and that is how they differ from Hypnotherapy, EFT and NLP which are more focused on the unconscious mind. In my experience, creating change both consciously and unconsciously, allows that change to happen more quickly and this combination also has a higher degree of success. Of course some clients will be looking solely for talking therapy and that is equally fine, I am experienced in using both coaching and counselling tools, allowing clients to work through problems and come to a place of acceptance, feeling equipped to move forward with confidence.
